“Churches and cemeteries have been intimately linked since the earliest day of the church’s existence. This close relationship is not accidental; it is a powerful sign of the church’s teaching about death. The good news of the gospel is that Jesus’ death on the cross was followed by his resurrection from the dead. This, Christians believe, is our destiny also. Thus a cemetery that surrounds a church is a powerful symbol of Christian hope. St. James’ Cemetery with the Chapel of St. James-the-Less is a beautiful testimonial to that hope.”
