Education at St. James

The Cathedral offers lectures, seminars and discussion on a wide variety of topics and issues of interest to Christians and to the wider community, usually on Wednesday evenings.

These may have a devotional, theological or scriptural focus, especially in Advent and Lent, or may address a contemporary ethical or political issue facing the church. The sessons are led by Cathedral clergy and visiting experts from the wider church.

The evenings usually commence with the Eucharist or Evensong in the Cathedral, followed immediately by the presentation.

All are welcome.

CHURCH SCHOOL (ages 6-12) Classes for children ages 6-12 are offered Sunday mornings from September to June at the 11 am service.

CATECHISM Every year, St. James' Cathedral offers a course on the basics of the Christian faith.  All those seeking to deepen their understanding and practice of the faith are welcome to attend, especially those preparing for baptism or confirmation, and those wishing to be received into the Anglican communion from another tradition.  A similar course is offered for teenagers as numbers warrant.

Who were the heirs of the Apostles, what do we know about them, and what can we learn from them? In the writings of St. Clement of Rome, St. Polycarp of Smyrna, and St. Ignatius of Antioch - the 'disciples of the disciples' - we see how ancient our most fundamental beliefs and traditions really are. The Apostolic Fathers, as witnesses to the earliest days of the Church, offer us powerful insights on living faithfully in a post-Christian world.

February 29: Who are the Apostolic Fathers?
March 7: St. Clement of Rome
March 14: St. Polycarp of Smyrna
March 21: St. Ignatius of Antioch
